Meet the APPRO and CERRON Team: Roz Peterson

We are continuing to introduce you to the members of our team, and this week we would like to introduce you to Roz Peterson! We hope you enjoy learning more about us and our expert team at APPRO & CERRON.

Name: Roz Peterson

Role:  CERRON Commercial Properties Sales Agent, CCIM

APPRO and CERRON help businesses find and/or create great spaces – what about that do you love?

  • I enjoy learning about each person’s business and finding creative solutions to meet their real estate goals. The best part is each transaction is different and unique to that client.

Why should someone who doesn’t know APPRO and CERRON, choose our companies?

  • Integrity – We have a culture where the customer comes first. Doing what is right for each client no matter what.

What is your earliest memory of selling, designing or building something?

  • I sold Girl Scout cookies door to door at age 10. At one house, a teenage boy ordered 25 boxes…much to the surprise of the parents when I delivered them looking for payment.
What do you do outside of the office for fun?

  • Snowmobiling with my family is definitely what I like to do for fun.

What is your favorite quote?

  • For the price of effort, you can have anything.
What is your favorite sport (to cheer on or to play)?
  • I enjoy going to (and cheering on) all the major sports.

Where is one place you have not been, but would really like to go?

  • Australia

ICSC Hosts Four Members of Congress at RECon

ICSC Hosts Four Members of Congress at RECon – to Learn More about the Retail Real Estate Industry

ICSC – (International Council of Shopping Centers) mission is “to advance the shopping center industry and to promote its role in the commercial distribution of consumer goods and services.” ICSCLogo_Member_1

ICSC’s annual RECon event in Las Vegas, welcomed four members of Congress, who attended to learn more about the retail real estate industry and share their insight on the tax reform debate currently underway on Capitol Hill. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), Congressmen Richard Neal (D-MA), Jim Renacci (R-OH) and Steve Womack (R-AR) each took a tour of the show floor and met with ICSC members to hear about issues impacting their businesses. All were impressed with the size of the show and level of business activity taking place.

On May 18, Reps. Neal, Renacci and Womack participated in a panel discussion on tax reform. They explained that while ideas are still being discussed within each party, now is a critical time for ICSC members to talk to members of Congress about provisions that are central to the retail real estate industry, such as capital gains treatment, the ability to deduct the interest on commercial debt or the like-kind exchange rules. During the Q&A session, ICSC members expressed their concern about having a repeat of the 1986 Tax Reform Act that devastated the retail real estate industry. The congressmen encouraged ICSC members to meet with both their legislators and staff to share examples of how different components of the tax code are used in actual projects and how the elimination of certain incentives would have impacted those projects. Such efforts will make those tax provisions more tangible to legislative offices.

The 5th Annual Exceptional Businesswomen Recognition Banquet

Exceptional Business Woman Dakota County 2014Roz and nine (9) additional Exceptional Businesswomen received recognition at a Banquet at the Lost Spur Golf & Event Center in Eagan, on the morning of Tuesday, February 25th. In addition to a breakfast reception, each recipient received a plaque, and were part of a panel discussion, moderated by Catherine Byers Breet, owner of ARBEZ (an online job hunt coaching system).

Among our favorite words of wisdom, were the following quotes and comments from the some of the award recipients:

  • It is important to love what you do. I am surrounded by a great team and enjoy the people I work with. -Karen DeVaughn, Life Wellness Center, Lakeville & Eagan
  • Having cheerleaders and strong supporters in your career can make a world of difference. -Audrey Aronson Johnson, Johnson Companies, Lakeville
  • I am able to help people every day. I only wish that one day there wasn’t a need for what I do; when there is no need to fundraise for cancer because a cure has been found. -Kari Mitchell, Charity Events of Minnesota, Rosemount
  • Three things are necessary to be successful in life: 1. Order: bring order to your life, outsource/delegate so that you can focus on what matters; 2. Organize: surround yourself with the right people; having a great team around you can make all the difference; and, 3. Prioritize: make decisions on the actions you take, based on your values. -Roz Peterson, CERRON Commercial Properties, Lakeville
  • “Google me!” (her reputation speaks for itself, as she received countless unsolicited reviews, increasing her client base) and to have a positive attitude, work hard, and send thank you’s, regardless of the outcome. -Linda Radue, Burnsville Volkswagen, Burnsville
  • Have a vision statement upon which your team can rally around. Be proactive in looking for solutions in your business. “What is your paper?” (as a reduction in paper sales impacted many other product lines in their industry, they have found it necessary to create new opportunities in their industry). -Jennifer Smith, Innovative Office Solutions, Burnsville
  • Assess your interests and talents and then go put them to use. Get involved – If you see something needs to be done, go do it! -Karen Wentworth, HOBO Inc., Lakeville

The event was organized by ECM Publishers and the Dakota County Tribune and Sun Thisweek who did a great job, as well as the many event sponsors who helped to make the morning a great event!

Minneapolis St Paul Regional Business Plan

Minneapolis St Paul Regional Business Plan

I recently attended a forum on restoring job growth in the Minneapolis St Paul region that was sponsored by The Itasca Project which is an employer led civic alliance focused on building a thriving economy and improved quality of life for the Minneapolis- St. Paul metro region. Some of this work can be found at www.metromsp.org where you can search all available commercial properties that are for sale or for lease. It is a joint public-private
partnership with
DEED and MNCAR. MSP has long had a history of stable growth, not boom or bust like some other cities. “Steady success over recent decades renders the region less prepared to deal with data suggesting a pattern of decline. MSP’s growth rates over recent years for productivity, incomes and employment have all trailed national averages.” Venture capital firms and new business start up rankings have also declined. However, for homegrown Fortune 500 businesses, Minnesota ranks at the top.

According to the executive summary, the time is NOW to bring together multiple regional efforts utilizing 6 critical leverage points:

1) Cluster concentration of industries, functions and occupations

2) Develop and deploy human capital for economic growth

3) Develop an infrastructure of innovation and entrepreneurship

4) Increase spatial efficiency

5) Create effective public and civic culture and institutions

6) Develop and deploy information resources

The four main industry clusters include food, health, design and the arts as identified by 4FRONT, a non-profit organization established to identify, attract, nurture and recognize world-class inventors, entrepreneurs and artists.

All businesses start out small in some shape or form. Now is the time to position your business for the 21st century. Taking advantage of a buyer’s real estate market is one way to help your business grow as we see improvement in our economy.
